This reminds me also of the design of Animal Crossing. (Full disclosure: I'm totally addicted at the moment, see real life bugs and instantly recognise they are not part of my collection yet.)

But in the game, everything is done by interacting with characters on the island you walk on. You unlock new features and game play, as Tom Nook gives you a NookPhone and sends you more and more apps. New mechanics often come in the form of new characters and buildings as well.

Most iconic to me is the airport, located at the south of every island. You want to connect with your friends and go to their island? You have to go to the airport to do so. You can then talk with the dodo behind the counter and let him open the gates (so friends can visit you) or search for flights to other islands. In the conversation he asks: do you want to go to an island that is close or far away, meaning: local connection or connection over the internet? All the loading and connecting is dressed up as if you are taking a flight, it's really well done.

Anyway, different clouds, but still space in cyber.

It’s sad, but I will keep cycling to the office (once it opens again), because that is the most efficient, and I am very opposed to owning a car (there is a shared GreenWheels in the street next to me) and hey, I didn’t pass the exam yet!

That’s what I missed the most: social contact... The situation here allows for ‘contact jobs’ like barbers and driving lessons, with some extra precautions, last few weeks. I know it’s a risk, but I see zero friends and family now, public tests are coming. Hope stuff stays down.

Driving lessons. I am almost 31, live a Dutch city with plenty of bike space and love our trains, but am I stressed about them right now and want more options to see my parents. (Turns out it’s kind of fun burning fuel for an hour, just to move your body in a box on wheels.)

Mag de Nijhoffprijs volgend jaar naar de vertalers van Animal Crossing? Het is echt een goed spel, juist ook in het Nederlands. Ik kwel Blathers met elk insect dat ik vind om te horen wat hij nu weer tegen het beest heeft.

Mag ik jullie even lastig vallen met #animalcrossing? Dit is mijn uit de hand gelopen hobby... Nook wilde er maar 5 hebben, maar ik vond veel meer beesten.

Inmiddels is zijn vriend Blathers op mijn eiland neergestreken, omdat die wel potentie zag in mijn verzameldrift. Probleem is alleen: hij wilde er maar 15 hebben en is nu druk bezig met de papieren voor een museum.

Dus voor de time being heb ik de boel maar even bij hem voor de tent neergezet. Wat ik zeg: uit de hand gelopen hobby.

De fossielen die ik vond laat ik wel even lekker thuis. Zou niet willen dat ze nat worden!

Ik heb Animal Crossing en een week vakantie genomen en hou nu tegen collega’s vol dat dat zo gepland was, maar ik vrees nu al dat de grap me gaat inhalen en ik inderdaad de rest van de week op mijn eiland zit.

Ja ik speel dus sinds een tijdje piano. Ben nu bezig met ‘The Entertainer’ van Scott Joplin.

– Hm, dat ken ik niet...

Tuurlijk wel, dikke tieten kartoffelsalat.

– O die!

O jee, ik heb bij de AH twee Ben&Jerry’s gekocht omdat ze in de bonus waren, maar er past er nog maar één in de vriezer. Wat nu?~~
