Week 14 of 2026: boardgame camp
A bit of a late post, as it’s already Wednesday, but in my defence: it was a long weekend and I even prolonged the Easter by taking Tuesday off as well.
In this long weekend, I weny to Midwolda for a boardgaming retreat. Expect a longer “Played” section than usual. It was great and I’m already looking forward to next year.
Played (RPGs)
On Tuesday I ran the eighth episode of my ongoing Mausritter campaign. It was a bit harder to get into this time, and the second part felt rushed because we used the first part to figure out what to do. I guess they can’t all be masterpieces. It still was an okay session, but I might have to do a little more preparation for next time.
On Wednesday I went to Utrecht to playtest a game of someone I know. It was a John Wick inspired crunchy combat game, but I guess I won’t say too much about it here since it was a prototype. It was interesting to play.
Played (boardgames)
Let me start with some of the games I just want to name by their title: I played Beast, Coyote, Insider, Flip 7, Deep Sea Adventure and Crash Octopus, and they were all enjoyable, especially the last two. Special mentions go to the following:
Cubitos is a game I introduced to A., but since then, he has bought the English version (better for our international community) and the expansion to it (it now plays up to 6 people!) As always, I really liked this game.
Dominion got me into a bit of a craze: I have since downloaded the iPhone app for it to “practice” playing with the base set of the game a bit more, as I notice that many players who knew the game where very familiar with all these cards. It is a nice system.
Harmonies is the game in the category “cute new game I did not know before” and I really love it. In fact, the third time D. found me playing the game, he gifted me his copy, to which I am very grateful. It’s a great cute puzzle game – not really a lot of interaction but still very enjoyable.
Ran
I’m on a “Post Race Recovery Plan” and in the first week of that there was only a 6km easy run on Saturday. I did so, with E. and J., at the boardgame camp in Midwolda. It was nice to have a social run.
