Week 15 of 2026: recovery

My therapist was back from a three week holidays, sharing some truths and reflections. I also played an RPG revolving around feelings which I might’ve taken too literal, and I’ve started reading a book about autism again. And I haven’t been working out like I used to.

Read

  • finished Closer by Dennis Cooper – I could’ve expected this after reading The Sluts, but this book is equally shocking using the same themes. Please be warned.
  • started Unmasking Autism by Devon Price – interesting read so far, and as usual, I don’t find all these properties of Autism apply to me, but some do sound familiar and the stuff about masking is interesting

Played

On Tuesday, I ran Brindlewood Bay, with the mystery A Night at the Whaling Museum. This is the first time I ran a mystery for the second time (see week 12), and I must say it’s true: this time it was very different and had a solution which was similar, but certainly not the same. It was also very nice to have to prepare very little: I already knew all the characters, locations and clues, which came in handy because I was still very tired after last weekend.

On Wednesday, I played Thirsty Sword Lesbians as a player. I had been looking forward to this session a lot, as I heard the GM was amazing. She was. It was a bit crowded with five players at the table, and I think it would be even more amazing with fewer players, but it was impressive how she handled it.

I was a bit overwhelmed by the newness of the game, the players and most of all the central conflict of my character (I was playing the Seeker playbook, which revolves about your relation with tradition and your place in society, now that you have found a new place). I guess I was making it too big in my head, causing me to shut down at times. Playing RPGs as a player is still a work in progress for me.

On Sunday, I played some boardgames: Cubitos, Mountain Goats and Azul.

Ran

I only ran on Tuesday, for 7.4km easy. I was supposed to run two times, but I’ve skipped one. I think it’s ok, as I am still in my ‘recovery weeks’ after the Venloop, but I also feel so out of it that I have to be careful not to drop running entirely. Also, I had a very high heart rate during the easy run, which feels both demotivating and understandable.

On top of this, I also skipped volleyball entirely, and cycled to work only once. It was really not a sportive week at all.
