Week 41 of 2026: lunch
This week there was a birthday party, a barber and a lunch, among other things. Like a lunch "outside the door", a lunch where you meet with a person and talk about things. I never do that, but I felt very expat / big city life when doing so.
Read
- finished The Stone Sky by N.K. Jemisin (The Broken Earth 3)
- started Tough Guy by Rachel Reid
Finally finished The Stone Sky and with that the whole The Broken Earth trilogy. The last bit was not slow because the book was bad, but because I wanted to find the right moments for it, not going too fast. (If you look at it that way it turns out I'm way too busy to read.) This is a phenomenal series and would recommend.
After finishing I started "something lighter", mostly something I don't feel I should go slow with. So I am already halfway Tough Guy, the third book within the Heated Rivalry universe and it's interesting I also thoroughly enjoy this, just on a different level.
Played
On Tuesday I ran the seventeenth episode of the Mausritter campaign, and it was an interesting one. I had a long day with work, then lunch and organizational meetings about the RPG Night itself, with some emotions, so I really did not prepare a thing. Luckily there were two new players and one player with a character we knew little about. I just improvised openly: told the players what to expect and then went into the fiction, where this one character was lost in the Faerie Realm non of us knew anything about, so the session became about exploring that. It went pretty well, one of the better recent ones, and it shows that I should lean into improvising and player input a bit more.
On Wednesday I played Frontier Scum, a game that intrigued me because there are very little western RPGs and an OSR cowboy game inspired by Mörk Borg had me just instantly sign up. Unfortunately, I was still tired, maybe even more tired, and when the adventure was set on a frozen sea, exploring a sail ship stranded on an ice berg, I just couldn't get into it as I wanted to. That's okay, I enjoyed seeing the other players goof and jam. There will be another RPG soon.
Ran
My legs are not really doing what they should, so I skipped two runs, leaving me only with a 8km easy on Monday and a 7.5km easy on Friday. At this stage I should prioritize recovery, the app says, so that's what I do. I really hope the little pains go away before Sunday's marathon.
